TIG Welding with Square Wave Technology

What you will see in this episode:
What is square wave technology? When deciding on a welding machine, many people hear ‘square wave’ and think, “I need that”. The fact of the matter is; square wave is an advanced feature, but not to be used in every welding project. In this episode we will give welding tips and answer:
  • What is Square Wave Technology?
  • How do I know if my machine has it?
  • What are the benefits?
  • When do I use it?
  • How do I set it?

The Setup:
Now that you have decided that square wave is needed for your particular application, it is time to plug in the proper settings. You will often hear the term “balanced wave”, which refers to 50% negative (penetration) and 50% positive (cleaning). This will often result in too much cleaning action and create problems. In most cases a starting point of 70% negative and 30% positive is recommended.

The Welding:
In this video we show the cleaning action separate from the actual welding (which is not normal). Normally you would weld and clean at the same time, but we did this to better demonstrate the differences when setting up your square wave settings.
